Switzerland's urban sprawl continues. The gulf between metropolitan areas and the rest of the country is widening.
In the interests of achieving balanced spatial development, the Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) has drawn up its «Spatial Development Report 2005». The document puts forward a spatial concept for Switzerland that focuses on strengthening the country's urban centres, promoting strategic town networks and formulating strategies for rural areas.
