Stated preference survey 2025 on mode, route and departure time choices - Technical Report

This report describes the data collection methods of the stated preference (SP) survey 2025 on travel choices and presents some preliminary results prior to the actual analysis project. The SP survey has been conducted since 2010 under the lead of the Swiss Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE). It is directly linked to the revealed preference (RP) survey, the Swiss Mobility and Transport Microcensus (MTMC), carried out by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) in collaboration with the ARE. Its purpose is to measure how travelers react to key transport attributes such as travel time, travel cost, transfers or crowding by combining observed behavior (RP) with carefully designed hypothetical choice situations (SP). The results provide an important empirical basis for the Swiss national transport model (ARE, 2026), Swiss transport perspectives (ARE, 2022b) and Swiss cost-benefit analyses (VSS, 2009).
