Settlement & Landscape
The federal government is pursuing sustainable and coherent spatial development through its policies for agglomerations, rural areas and mountain regions.
An important pillar of this is inward urban development, which emphasises the importance of improved use and upgrading of existing settlement areas. The aim is to stop urban sprawl, protect cultivated land and – in view of the housing shortage – create attractive living spaces. Through its model projects, the federal government also promotes innovative spatial development ideas from communes, cities, regions and organisations.
